The projection surface may then be viewed by a user in the field via a respective image capture device. Remote sensing sensors include, for example, photo-diode array (PDA) and charge coupled device (CCD) sensors. These sensors include a sensing aperture configured to receive radiation or electromagnetic energy (e.g., visible light, infrared, ultraviolet, gamma rays, X-rays, cosmic rays, and so on).
Remote sensing sensors typically include a focal plane that is imaged into an image plane. A focal plane has a focal point, or point of focus, which is the area of the focal plane that is viewed in an image plane. In other words, a focal point is the point in an image plane where a projected image of the focal plane is formed.More than 4 million women die of complications of pregnancy and childbirth each year, with an additional 20 million suffering from some form of reproductive health problem. An estimated one-third of the world's population lives in areas that are affected by recurrent or persistent infections with schistosomes. The African blood fluke (Schistosoma mansoni) is the most significant of these schistosome-associated diseases. S. mansoni is an intestinal parasite in humans that affects more than 90 million people worldwide. The egg is also the infectious agent and lives in the lumen of the intestine where it is passed with the feces of infected humans. Eggs are also present in the peripheral circulation of infected humans. In both hosts, the parasite larvae undergo several changes in their morphology to mature. The function of the stage-specific antigens (SSAs) expressed by the parasite has remained largely unknown. Our recent studies, however, have clearly identified them as key molecules in the parasite life cycle. This proposal outlines the studies of immunologically important stage-specific SSA antigens. To this end, we have identified several SSA antigens (Sm28, Sm33 and Sm43). The aim of the present proposal is to determine the nature and function of the stage-specific SSA antigens. The approach will involve: (1) producing and characterizing anti-SSA monoclonal antibodies, (2) characterizing the antibodies produced and (3) determining the function of ac619d1d87
